JRC MONNET – the intense fast-neutron source for fundamental and application-driven research
نویسندگان
چکیده
MONNET is a fast-neutron source based on 3.5 MV tandem accelerator, located at the Geel (BE) site of Joint esearch Centre. It became operational in 2020. may deliver intense neutron beams energy range from 30 keV to 10.1 MeV and 12.8 24 MeV. Neutrons are generated by means nuclear reactions target material ( e.g. protons or deuterons lithium-7, tritium deuterium targets). delivers flux up 10 9 n/sr/s, depending producing reaction energy. Neutron essentially mono-energetic (∆ E n / < 6% with > 300 keV). The accelerator also be used proton deuteron beams. Alpha will offered soon. Photon possible presently under investigation. research program ranges cross section measurements, n, f ), p , α ) as well ′), p, γ fission research, studies radiation-induced damage), investigation advanced methods technologies, safety security. offers beamtime external user within JRC EUFRAT Open Access program. Proposal evaluation an independent panel taking place two times per year.

The Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the Spallation Neutron Source
The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), currently under construction at Oak Ridge National Laboratory with an anticipated start-up in early 2006, will provide the most intense pulsed beams of cold neutrons in the world. At a projected power of 1.4 MW, the time averaged fluxes and fluences of the SNS will approach those of high flux reactors. One of the flight paths on the cold, coupled moderator w...
متن کاملAccelerator-Driven Neutron Source for Cargo Screening
Advanced neutron interrogation systems for screening sea-land cargo containers for shielded special nuclear materials (SNM) require a high-yield neutron source to achieve the desired detection probability, false alarm rate, and throughput. The design of an accelerator-driven neutron source is described that utilizes the D(d,n)He reaction to produce a forward directed beam of up to 8.5 MeV neutr...
متن کاملLinac-driven Spallation-neutron Source*
Strong interest has arisen in accelerator-driven spallationneutron sources that surpass existing facilities (such as ISIS at Rutherford or LANSCE at Los Alamos) by more than an order of magnitude in beam power delivered to the spallation target. The approach chosen by Los Alamos (as well as the European Spallation Source) provides the full beam energy by acceleration in a linac as opposed to pr...

The features of two fundamental neutron physics research stations at the NIST cold neutron research facility are described in some detail. A list of proposed initial experimental programs for these two stations is also given.
متن کاملBeamline Performance Simulations for the Fundamental Neutron Physics Beamline at the Spallation Neutron Source
Monte Carlo simulations are being performed to design and characterize the neutron optics components for the two fundamental neutron physics beamlines at the Spallation Neutron Source. Optimization of the cold beamline includes characterization of the guides and benders, the neutron transmission through the 0.89 nm monochromator, and the expected performance of the four time-of-flight choppers....
